When we dig and separate our daylilies, we carefully extract them from the soil, then separate the fans of each daylily with crown and roots in tact. The fans (sets of leaves) are trimmed down to minimize stress while transplanting. The size of the roots and fans vary by daylily variety. Spring purchases typically bloom in the same year while fall purchases will see color the following year. We recommend that customers plant their new roots as soon as possible and water well for several weeks while the plant gets established.
